The prettiest edition of this book by far!

This is a review of the Llewellyn Publishing 1974 1st Edition of "Gems From The Equinox."

There are currently 3 editions to this book. Differences in content(if any) have not been noted.

This first edition's binding is superior in many ways to many of the others. This 1st edition is Smythe-Sewn, and has a lovely gloss red leatherette cover that has held up for almost 40 years. The silver lettering on the cover and spine really "pop" on the red leatherette. Issued with no D/J. The prettiest edition of this book ever issued.

The 2nd Edition 1st PrintingGems From The Equinox: Instructions by Aleister Crowley from his own Magical Order has a canvas spine and thick cardboard covers. The 2nd and 3rd printings have a grey/black laminate hardcover glued back which have a tendency to split on the spine. The 1st Printing is Smythe-Sewn, the 2nd and 3rd Printings are glue-bound-- this is to say that the backing/spine of the 1st Printing is very durable where the 2nd & 3rd Printings have a tendency to split at a point that is multiply opened, whereas the Smythe-Sewn edition will lay flat and open. The 2nd and 3rd Printings have a non-flexible cardboard spine and should be avoided.

The 3rd Edition Gems from the Equinox: Instructions by Aleister Crowley for His Own Magical Order falls somewhere between the 1st Edition and the 2nd Edition 1st Printing in quality. It is a burgundy red leatherette hardback, flexible spine and Smythe-sewn. Not quite as pretty as the Llewellyn edition, but quite durable, and a good price for the student.

It is this 1st edition that most collectors will eventually find that they want -- the 1974 Llewellyn Red Leatherette; it's eye-popping red color and gold leaf on the spine makes is a beautiful edition. This 1st edition is often a little more expensive; The New Falcon 2nd edition is not as pretty but it is just as durable.

Be careful which edition you choose. Compare prices. Compare sellers. Ask for photos. There are some bargains to be found in this title, choose carefully: This is *one* book on Magick that you will want to keep the rest of your life-- careful selection of available editions and printings will ensure you'll find a copy that will last you that long.

If you loved the Spelunky game, then this is definitely an interesting book for you. Derek Yu is not only an amazing game designer, but a talented writer as well. I greatly enjoyed reading his thoughts on life, designing games, and working hard towards achieving your goals. It is very inspiring to see how he developed Spelunky throughout the years, and how he offered an enthralling experience for gamers who like challenging games. I have played many hours of Spelunky, and I think the book helped me to enjoy it even more!

Alfred Basta, PhD, is a professor of mathematics, cryptography, and information security as well as a professional speaker on topics in Internet security, networking, and cryptography. He is a member of many associations including the Mathematical Association of America. Dr. Basta's other publications include MATHEMATICS FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, LINUX OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION, and DATABASE SECURITY.

Dustin A. Finamore has 14 years of experience with the United States Air Force (USAF), where he developed and taught UNIX security and UNIX advanced administration courses. As an airman, he installed, configured, and maintained intelligence computer systems worldwide. He is a graduate of Bellevue University and is currently an instructor at Virginia College, where he teaches Linux courses, among others.

Nadine Basta, MS, is a professor of computer science, information technology, and security. Her numerous certifications include MCSE, MSDBA, CCDP, NCSE, NCTE, and CCA. A security consultant and auditor, she combines strong "in the field" experience with her academic background. She is also coauthor of MATHEMATICS FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY and LINUX OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION.

an OK book for Learning Linux

Used this book for one of my classes, however, I was not a fan of the book's layout. That is just my personal preference, but half way through the course, our instructor decided to use a different book to teach Linux server concepts because of this. For those that are not taking a course and want to learn some in's and out's for Linux, this is a good book. However, for the college bound, there may be better books out there that serve a more fundamental style.

Very shallow text. If you're serious into linux administration and increasing security, this book won't help you get too far. Also some statements don't really make much sense. They appear to be copied from the man page but put out of context.

A Game Changer for your Life

I could never get my head around what the true purpose of Jesus life was, and what He suffered on our behalf. This book provides the details of events that the Bible mentions, and gives depth and meaning to His suffering. This book can help you understand the magnitude of His love for us. I felt that it fueled a low burning flame in me into a great fire. I don't have to change my life, I have to change who I live it for. "Our sanctification depends not upon changing our works but in doing for God what we ordinarily do for ourselves." -Brother Lawrence.

God is simple, it's life that is complicated! When talking with St. Catherine of Sienna, God refers to Jesus as 'The Bridge" out of the river of relentless suffering. I'd say that is a great description!

This woman was truly an inspiration and should be better known by our world. It's amazing how people can suffer with Our Lord for the benefit of humanity. Hard concept to understand but if you read it this will give you a glimpse into the world of saints and mystics in the Catholic Church. A page turner if I've ever seen one. Hard to find!

Not worth my money

I don't like how the book is structured. If the book is for "dummies", the reader should be able to quickly find what they're looking for. I prefer the McGraw-Hill Quick Step style of writing. I want to be able to quickly find what I want, and not feel like I have to read entire chapters to find what I'm looking for. Or to re-read to see if they actually answered my question. I feel this was a waste of money. I wish a SharePoint 2016 version was available under McGraw-Hill.
